With its 300 hectares (750 acres) of primary Amazon Jungle, Yacuma Protected Rainforest Reserve is located in the upper basin of the Amazon Jungle on the west shores of the Chontayacu River which sheds its water into the great  Napo River, one of the biggest affluent of the Amazon River . Over 340 bird species live in the vicinity of Yacuma Reserve. A great number of insects, reptiles, mammals and a fantastic number of plants and tree species are recorded on this beautiful area. In March 2004 this exttraordinary area was declared a Protected Rainforest Reserve by the Enviroment Ministry of Ecuador (Registro Forestal No. 15-008).

Lighting is based in Solar Energy. All rooms, toilets and gardens are illuminated with special bulbs energized with high efficiency Solar Panels built in Ecuador (Ecuadorean Engineering Company). The bungalows main frames (rows and columns) are built with iron elements which can be easily taken away if necessary. This way we avoid the constant cutting of the big trees needed for the bungalows frames. If we could built the complex with wood frames, then normally each 12 months was the need to replace so leading to a constant tree depredation.
