The Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve located in the northeast section of the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest -- is one of the most important protected wildlife reserves in Ecuador. Due to its unique lake system covering more than 10,000 hectares and its huge areas of palm swamps, the biodiversity of the Cuyabeno Reserve is amazing. Over 500 different species of birds including the harpy eagle, toucans, parrots and macaws, live in the Cuyabeno Reserve.
In fact, one hectare of the Cuyabeno Reserve can contain over 240 different species of plants, each one with a specific practical or medicinal use. |
Jaguars, Monkeys, Anteaters, Sloths, Pink and grey Dolphins, Manatees, Armadillos, and Otters are just some of the mammals that live in the Cuyabeno Reserve. Poison arrow frogs, tree frogs, anacondas, fer de lances and bushmasters are some of the reptiles found in Cuyabeno. |
