Amazon Dolphin Lodge - Sample program descriptions |
Monday.- Leave Quito by plane to the small amazon city of Coca. Travel down the napo River and arrive at the Amazon Dolphin Lodge and the Bosque Protector PAÑACOCHA. Lunch will be served during the trip. Arrive at the lodge at around 5:00 PM. Dinner. Night walk along a short trail to observe insect life, night monkeys, reptiles etc. and listen to the fantastic evening concert of the jungle.
Tuesday- Cruise the Pañacocha lagoon by paddle canoe while observing the fantastic variety of birds visible from the waters edge and through the flooded forest. Return to the Lodge for breakfast. Go out in paddle canoes again to reach a trail-head. Along the way we will see the incredible flooded forest vegetation, observe riparian wildlife and thread throught the islands created by vegetation to see the colonies of birds and their nests along the rivers edge. Hike along an exclusive trail to view the diversity of vegetation and terrestrial birds. Lunch on the trail. In the evening we will have fun out fishing for pirañas. Dinner and relaxation. (During the course of the day there will be plenty of opportunities to get a chance to observe the Pink Amazon River Dolphin.)
Wednesday.- Breakfast. Go out on a jungle trail hiking adventure for three hours, traversing wild virgin rainforest which is the heart of the Bosque Protector Pañacocha. We will observe a huge number of wild medicinal plants that have are utilized by the local indigenous communities. We will also observe Mackaws, Parrots, Parakits, Tucans and many wild animals insects and reptiles that live in the area. In the afternoon we will come together with the native guides to share their knowledge about the use of the most feared weapon of the Ecuadorian Amazon known as the “BODOQUERA O CERBATANA” or otherwise known as the Amazonian Blowgun. Dinner. Night trip in the small rowing canoes (piraguas) in the river Panayacu and Pañacocha lagoon. (During the course of this day too, there will be plenty of opportunities to get a chance to observe the Pink Amazon River Dolphin.)
Thursday.- Early in the morning, after breakfast, we will take the motor canoe and wind our way down the narrow Panayacu river to the confluence of the great Napo river where we will visit the local native community and observe the customs and way of life. We will, at this time if you choose, also have the chance to support them by buying their beautiful seed jewlery and other crafts. In the afternoon after lunch we will have an amazing trip to Wooley Monkey Island. This is an important protected reserve to protect and increase Wooly monkey populations. Return to the Lodge. Dinner and relaxation.
Friday.- Cast off from the Amazon Dolphin Lodge in the motor boat first thing in the morning returning to Coca. Catch the return flight back to Quito.
